On the Towne Community Theatre is coming to Anthem and its surrounding communities! On the Towne, a new non-profit, independent theatre company, is a new venture by Starlight CommunityTheatre co-founders Paul and Betty Towne, along with Anthem resident Kevin McCaw. On the Towne Community Theatre will initially focus on children’s productions specifically aimed at the six to eleven age group. According to On the Towne co-founder Paul Towne “we want to establish a theatre that specifically targets children. Our goal is not just to produce shows, but to be a teaching theatre.”
On the Towne’s first programs will be offered through the Anthem Community Center. Betty continues, “We will be offering a six week, thirty-six hour instruction program, our first production Alice in Wonderland was a huge success! In our program every child will have a named part and a minimum of three lines. Children will learn all aspects of theatre, including but not limited to, vocal projection, character development, stage presence, theatrical protocol, as well as self and group discipline. The curriculum will include a combination of physical exercise, oral reading and theatrical games. Families will be encouraged to join the fun by helping make simple sets and costumes.”
Kevin adds, “in the future we want to be able to provide adult productions of dramas and comedies to take advantage of the plethora of talent within the community that does not sing or dance.” For more information about On the Towne Community Theatre’s current offerings see the Fall 2007 issue of Come Play with Us, e-mail OntheTowne@cox.net or call (623) 594-7234.
